Salary: $34,338 - $36,054/year or higher, DOQ
The James City County Fire Department is offering an
exciting opportunity to become trained in a career in
firefighting and emergency medical services. No
experience is necessary; extensive training will be
provided.
Work involves responding to a variety of injuries or
life threatening situations, and fire prevention and
suppression. Requires high school diploma or
equivalent; must possess and maintain a valid driver’s
license and successfully complete the Tidewater
Regional Fire Academy, or equivalent agency, as
determined by the James City County Fire Department,
and possess and maintain the following certifications
from the Tidewater Regional Fire Academy, or
equivalent certifications as determined by the James
City County Fire Department: 1) Firefighter II; 2)
Hazardous Materials – Operations; 3) EVOC; 4) EMT-B;
and 5) CPR within one (1) year of employment.
Additionally, incumbents must successfully complete
the Virginia Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate
course (including ACLS, PALS, PHTLS or BTLS) and
successfully complete the James City County Fire
Department medic Precepting program within two years
of employment. Requires an
extensive background investigation, polygraph exam,
criminal history check, sex offender check, driving
record check, physical exam, drug screening, fitness
assessment, and psychological assessment.

EMS TRAINING SPECIALIST
CITY OF
ROANOKE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE-EMS
The City of Roanoke, Department of Fire-EMS has an
opening for an EMS Training Specialist.
Responsibilities include but not limited to teaching
and coordinating basic, advanced life support and
auxiliary (ACLS, PHTLS, Etc) training programs for
department personnel, maintain and monitor training
records and certification, establish and maintain
facility site accreditation as outline by the State
Department of Health, develop and maintain
agreements/contracts relative to EMS training.
Additionally, the position will serve as the
department EMS Quality Assurance Officer and
occasionally precept EMT-I and EMT-P students in field
externship. Certification, Education and Experience

INSTRUCTOR FIRE & EMS PROGRAM MASSANUTTEN TECHNICAL
CENTER
The Captain level position has dual-accountability as
both a member of the Massanutten Technical Center
instructional team and an Officer of the Fire & Rescue
Department of Rockingham County. The individual
selected will be primarily responsible for performing
technical and administrative work in delivering the
training activities for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT
B) and Firefighter I and II to high school students.
The individual will be responsible for coordinating
additional instructors and personnel as needed to
instruct and test practical skills for state
certification testing. The position will maintain
various training records and files and maintain
training aids and equipment. The individual may be
subject to the usual hazards of emergency response
work. The Department desires an individual with any
combination and experience equivalent to graduation
from high school, five years experience in Fire and
Rescue Services and experience as an instructor
teaching related classes. The successful candidate
must possess and maintain certifications from the
Commonwealth of Virginia as a Firefighter II,
Instructor II, Hazardous Materials Operations and
Emergency Medical Technician – Basic. You must possess
a high level of competency in leadership,
communication, and human relation skills and must be
able to comfortably work with high school students in
a teaching setting. A valid Virginia driver’s license
