FIRE MEDIC

Continuous Recruitment 

The City of Fairfax Department of Fire & Rescue Services is accepting applications to establish a pool of qualified candidates to fill future vacancies for Fire Medic positions. 

DUTIES:                                Performs technical work in fire prevention, fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, and public life safety education.  These duties include driving and operating fire and EMS technical equipment.  Duties are often performed under stress and in a variety of hazardous work conditions.  Performs other duties as assigned.  Employees in this class may be assigned to work rotating shifts or a straight day work schedule, as required.

MINIMUM                                            

QUALIFICATIONS:     1)     Must be at least 21 years of age.

                                            2)     Minimum of 2 years of fire and EMS experience.

3)      Applicants must be currently certified at the following levels:

i      NFPA Fire Fighter II

i      Emergency Medical Technician – Cardiac or Paramedic

i      Hazardous Materials – Operations Level

i      Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification (EVOC) 

Copies of current technical certifications must be attached to the City of Fairfax job application at the time of submission. 

Candidates chosen to participate in the selection process will be required to pass a written examination for technical knowledge, a work performance test for technical skill, physical strength and stamina and an oral interview. 

Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must pass a job-related physical examination, polygraph examination and a comprehensive background investigation.  Fire and Rescue employees are required to sign an employment agreement that includes a non-tobacco use clause.  All employees must possess and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license and good driving record.

Firefighter/Medic

Department. Applicants are required to complete an application, written

polygraph test, job-related physical exam, sign a no-tobacco use agreement,
and possess a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
Qualifications: 21 years of age and possess high school diploma or
equivalent. Experience and certifications are not required but preferred.
Preferred certifications  are NFPA Firefighter II, Emergency Medical
Technician - B, Hazardous Materials - Operations Level, and Emergency

FRANKLIN COUNTY

 DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY

 The County of Franklin (50,000 pop.) is currently accepting applications for the Director of Public Safety.  Home to Smith Mountain and Philpott Lakes and bordered by the Blue Ridge Parkway, its 721 sq. mi. area presents a diverse and expansive challenge.  Excellent schools and a high quality of life await the successive applicant.  Applications may be obtained in the Office of the County Administrator, 40 East Court Street, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. The successful applicant will perform complex administrative and operational work in developing, directing, and implementing a comprehensive combination Career and Volunteer Public Safety program for the County as well as acting as an incident commander and emergency operations group chief, as necessary.  The County’s System is built around supporting the volunteer fire and EMS providers and this position is critical in establishing a supportive environment for this philosophy.  This position is responsible for Animal Control, Emergency Management, Fire Marshall’s Office, Training/Volunteer Recruitment and Retention and Emergency response for both EMS and Fire Suppression.

The successful applicant will possess any combination of education and experience equivalent to a four year degree in Public Administration, Fire Science, Business Administration, and advanced education in the Fire and Rescue field.  Extensive experience in hazardous materials, enhanced 9-1-1 operations, FEMA regulations, EMS delivery, and departmental management including budgeting and previous staff supervision experience is required.  Minimum 3 years of experience as a Public Safety Division, Deputy, or Department Head is preferred.

MADISON COUNTY

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS

The Madison County Department of EMS is accepting applications for Emergency Medical Technicians.  Position requires EMT CT or Paramedic, CPR, EVOC, and ACLS certifications, as well as a valid Virginia drivers license.  Must possess or be able to obtain Vehicle Extrication certification within one year of employment.  Requires 2 years of experience providing advanced life support services.  Must be currently released as a technician in your council.  Working in coordination with the County volunteer rescue squad is critical.  Position reports to the EMS Coordinator.  Applications are available at the County Administrator’s office, 414 North Main St. Madison VA  22727.  Phone 540-948-6700.  Fax 540-948-3843.
